A light, peppery and tangy broth made with tomatoes, tamarind, and roasted spice blend. Grandmothers consider it a remedy for colds — a comforting everyday soup.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe tomatoes, crushed
- 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 2 tsp rasam powder
- 1 tsp black pepper, crushed
- 1 tsp cumin seeds, crushed
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 green chili, slit
- 10 curry leaves
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt to taste
Steps
- 1 Combine crushed tomatoes, tamarind pulp, and 2 cups water in a pot. Bring to a boil.
- 2 Add rasam powder, crushed pepper, cumin, garlic, green chili, and salt. Simmer 10 minutes.
- 3 Stir in curry leaves and switch off the heat — don't boil after adding curry leaves.
- 4 Garnish with coriander and serve hot with steamed rice or as a soup.
